First Amendment issues aren’t the most exciting or creative but as department managers we need to keep in mind how important they are to our papers and our industry.
We’re about to enter NCAA tournament season we have a couple of rounds of the Women's NCAA D1 championship being played here in Little Rock so I made a point of reviewing the NCAA terms and conditions last week. It seems they are taking a more aggressive position in regards to media (photo, video or audio) than…

Some days, you have to find "opportunities" to grow your staff and assign the not-so-obvious choice. On other days,…

In a previous post, we talked about how to quickly trim and compress video from breaking news situations. The goal there was to prepare video quickly in situations where timeliness is critical. However, the limitation there is that you cannot combine clips - you can only trim. In order to edit, you'll need to use editing software such as FinalCut Pro.
However, you…

It seemed like it was going to be a traditional, quiet holiday week. My main concern was tracking down enough photo opportunities to cover the section fronts. On Tuesday, a request for a homecoming photo came in from the military team with an unusual but not particularly alarming note: the Navy had promised a…

Hey Gang-
John Rumbach has asked me to serve as a liaison between the APPM and the APME First Amendment Committee. The committee primarily champions the First Amendment through programs and initiatives but with a team of experienced FOI journalists and attorneys, serves as resource for newspapers when addressing governing bodies or organizations regarding First Amendment issues.
This is good for our group because it gives us more resources and support when addressing photo…
